First: Rule Out Carrier Issues

  • Is your account active and paid?
  • Is there a carrier outage in your area? (Check carrier's website or DownDetector)
  • Are you in a known dead zone?
  • Do other phones on the same carrier work?

  2. Remove the SIM card
  3. Check SIM for damage or dirt
  4. Reinsert SIM card properly
  5. Close tray firmly
⚠️ eSIM users: If you use eSIM only, skip this step.

5 Try SIM Card in Another Phone

  • If SIM works in another phone: iPhone has the problem
  • If SIM doesn't work anywhere: Get a new SIM from your carrier

6 Check Cellular Settings

  1. Go to Settings → Cellular
  2. Make sure Cellular Data is ON

  5. Check Voice & Data is set to LTE or 5G Auto

  2. Install any available updates

8 Reset Network Settings

  1. Go to Settings → General → Transfer or Reset iPhone
  2. Tap Reset → Reset Network Settings
  3. Enter passcode
  4. This resets WiFi, Bluetooth, VPN, and cellular settings

9 Check for Account Issues

Contact your carrier to verify:

  • Account is active and in good standing
  • SIM card is activated and valid
  • No blocks or restrictions on your line
  • iPhone IMEI isn't blacklisted

10 Try a New SIM Card

SIM cards can fail:

  1. Visit your carrier's store
  2. Ask for a new SIM card (usually free)
  3. They'll transfer your number to the new SIM

When It's Hardware

If none of the above worked, you may have hardware damage:

  • Antenna damage: From drops, often affects specific bands
  • Baseband IC failure: The cellular modem chip has failed
  • SIM reader damage: Can't read any SIM card
  • Water damage: Corrosion affecting cellular components

These require professional board-level repair or may not be cost-effective to fix.

Still No Service?
